The Untold Power of User Research
How to make better decisions in the age of AI

Researchers are uniquely positioned to build more responsible AI.

Just ask Google Research Scientist Rida Qadri.

Rida has spent her career on the ground, talking with real users and seeing exactly how they interact with the technology we design.

Surprise! They rarely use it the way we expect them to.

Find out how Rida shares qualitative user insights and context that lead to better, more human-centric product decisions.

Speaker Spotlight

Rida Qadri

Rida Qadri, Marvin Speaker

Rida Qadri is a Research Scientist at Google where she studies AI technologies in the Global South. In particular she is interested in the frictions and failures that emerge when there is a disconnect between lived realities of users in non-western settings and the assumptions of the technology designers.

Her work explores possibilities of designing AI technologies that build on and respect the situated expertise and knowledge of local communities. She is currently researching cultural erasure harms of generative AI like text-to-image models, exploring tensions in building evaluation frameworks and visual datasets that are inclusive of global cultures.

Her past research has examined local worker resistance and adaptation to gig work algorithms in Jakarta. She completed her PhD in Computational Urban Science and Masters in Urban Studies from MIT.
