The start of a new year is the perfect time to rethink how your UX team drives impact.

In this session, Prayag Narula talks with K.C. Teis, Executive Director of Experience Design at athenahealth. They’ll share how healthcare UX teams leverage AI, research, and customer insights to design solutions that deliver real results and influence across the organization.

You’ll learn how design and research leaders are:
💡 Using AI and customer insights to guide decision-making and prioritize effectively
💡 Building operating models and processes that scale across teams
💡 Turning research into actionable strategies that executives actually use
💡 Aligning cross-functional teams to deliver outcomes with confidence
💡 Creating rituals and systems that keep design human-centered and impactful

If you want practical strategies for making research, insights, and AI the backbone of your roadmap, this session is for you.

K.C. Teis

K.C. Teis has spent over 30 years answering a single question: how do we make complex systems feel simple for the people who use them? At athenahealth, he leads the Patient Experience design team, where that question has produced tangible results—including athenaPatient, now one of the highest-rated smartphone patient healthcare apps, and a redesigned athenaOne Scheduling experience that meaningfully improves how practices manage their clinician's time.

Before joining athenahealth, K.C. built and led design organizations at scale. He was at PayPal for nearly a decade, he oversaw 70+ global designers and researchers shaping products like PayPal Mobile, Pay Later, and Checkout. Later roles as Vice President of Design at Rackspace saw a reimagined suite of products for this cloud innovator and then as a partner in the firm Guidea with clients ranging from ExpressScripts, Johnson & Johnson to Bloomberg and USAA which gave him a broad view of how design creates value across industries—from enterprise infrastructure to healthcare to finance.

Today, K.C. also serves on the Advisory Council for the University of Texas Design in Health Master’s Program, helping shape the next generation of healthcare design leaders. He lives in Austin, Texas, where he gardens with his wife, Jennifer, tends to their llamas and is an obsessed maker in his workshop.
